The birthplace of Kanro

In 1922, a new factory was built in Asaemura Nijigahama, where beautiful ocean and mountain created the scenery of Setonaikai Natioal Park. This was where the origin of Kanro was established.

The origin of the name “Kanro”

“Kanro” means “Sweet drops fallen from heaven.” It was derived from a pronominal quotation meaning “the most beautiful taste ever existed.” Kanro candy had become a great hit after its debut. In 1960, Kanro Co., Ltd. was born, after the company name was changed from Miyamoto Seika.

History

Nov. 1912 Masaichi Miyamoto, the founding chairman of the company, began making sweets at Hiraki-shi,Yamaguchi Prefecture.
May. 1950 Reorganized into a stock company. Established Miyamoto Sweets Co., Ltd. with a capital of \1,000,000.
1955 Kanro Candy (Soy sause flavor) made a smash hit.
Apr. 1959 Constructed the Matsumoto Plant at Matsumoto-shi, Nagano Prefecture.
Sep. 1960 Changed the company name to Kanro Co., Ltd.
Jun. 1962 Opened the head office at Toshima-ku, Tokyo.
Sep. 1962 Listed stock on the second section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Oct. 1963 Moved the head office to Nakano-ku, Tokyo.
Aug. 1968 Constructed Phase I of a new plant at Hiraki-shi, Yamaguchi Prefecture.
Jun. 1973 Business alliance with Mitsubishi Corporation. Concluded a sales general agency agreement.
Jun. 1982 Constructed a new Matsumoto Plant in Sasaga, Matsumoto-shi, Nagano Prefecture.
Jan. 1988 Moved the head office to Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo.
Jul. 1995 Constructed the new Hikari Plant at Kozuo, Hikari-shi, Yamaguchi Prefecture.
Mar. 1998 Constructed a new head office at Nakano-ku, Tokyo.
Feb. 2000 Hikari Plant was granted the JISQ(ISO) 14001 Certification / Registration.
Feb. 2001 Matsumoto Plant was granted the JISQ(ISO) 14001 Certification / Registration.
Feb. 2002 Puré Gummy was put on market.
Feb. 2003 Head office and branch offices were granted the JISQ(ISO) 14001 Certification / Registration.
Dec. 2010 Constructed the Asahi Plant at Asahi-mura, Nagano Prefecture.
Nov. 2012 Kanro celebrated its 100th Anniversary.
